We have 3 kids, 2 of which play a lot of basketball! Our whole family loves basketball 🏀But this summer just being active outside and then when the girls started playing on their basketball leagues this fall, they were complaining of soar heels. So we started giving them ibuprofen after practicing or before a game, but I hated to just keep giving them medicine.
So I did some research and sounds like this is pretty common in 6-12 year old. I found some stretches they could do and that resting and/or icing helps as well. However, one thing I have tried for them is the good, ole’ Epsom salt soak. I found this Epsom salt specifically for aches and pains, my girls tried it and said it worked GREAT! We soak at least once a week, especially after a Saturday full of basketball games.
Found great info on Healthline: Healthline – more info on heel pain
**And please be cautious that heel pain can be something more serious, such as a fracture, Achilles tendinitis, Plantar fasciitis and something else. Please always refer to your child’s healthcare provider for direction on your child’s health. (Please know that I am NOT a professional and I am just sharing, a simple suggestion, that worked for our family. Always seek the advice of your physician or other qualified health provider with any question you may have regarding a medical condition.)
One quote I love from this article on https://www.healthline.com/: “As children grow, they may encounter various pains and strains. It’s your job as a parent to encourage rest, healing, and recovery”.
